Rabbi Joshua S. Taub

DSC06401pcRabbi Joshua S. Taub joined Temple Emanuel as our Rabbi on July 1, 2009. He came to us from his position as Senior Rabbi of the Temple Emanuel, St. Louis, Missouri.

Rabbi Taub is a “Jersey boy” by birth. Born in Newark and reared in East Brunswick, New Jersey, Rabbi Taub graduated from Livingston College, Rutgers University in 1980 having earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in American History. During his high school and college years he studied extensively in Israel. In 1984, he received his Master of Arts in Hebrew Letters from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, Ohio, where his studies focused on philosophy and modern Jewish thought. The title of his rabbinic thesis is: “A Study in Holocaust Theodicies.” He was ordained at HUC-JIR in 1985. In 2010 Rabbi Taub received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree recognizing his first twenty-five years of service in the rabbinate. 

Following his ordination, Rabbi Taub began his pulpit career serving smaller congregations: Temple Emanu-El in Longview, Texas, and Temple Rodef Sholom in Waco, Texas. In 1991 he was invited to join the staff of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah in Kansas City, Missouri, as its associate Rabbi. He was elected senior Rabbi of the congregation in 2000. He served Temple Emanuel in St. Louis from 2003 thru June 2009. 

Rabbi Taub has participated in a number of inter-faith activities and programs in the communities he has served and is looking forward to doing the same in the Golden Triangle. Rabbi Taub and Temple Emanuel created the “Love Thy Neighbor” project in December 2010 to build partnerships in the Golden Triangle that could “move the region closer to becoming the kind of community our children deserve.” Rabbi Taub serves on the local Emergency Food & Shelter Program Allocations Committee and is a member of the Beaumont Rotary Club. He teaches extensively at the Temple and has lectured at a number of churches in the Beaumont community. 

Rabbi Taub enjoys the game of golf and playing his guitar. He is a life-long NY Mets and NY Football Giants fan. 

Rabbi Taub is married Debbie Edelman of Tyler, TX, and he is the proud father of Naomi and Stephanie.
