Sisterhood Schmooze
Many thanks to Marleen Swerdlow for once again chairing our Shabbat Hospitality Committee. We are so fortunate that for many years she has quietly and efficiently matched our members to weekly Shabbat Hostess and Greeter duties as well as to our onegs. She tells me that she has it down to a science, but it seems like a lot of work to me!
Our delicious Opening Luncheon was exquisitely prepared and executed by Sherry Horwitz and Judy Night. In keeping with our theme of women’s health, our own, Diana Gordon spoke on “Getting it Together.” She was terrific, teaching us to become and stay organized.
And, thankfully, these ladies were willing to go back into the kitchen just over a week later, when Gail Williams joined them in preparing our traditional Sukkot dinner. When I think of fall, I think of cooler weather, colorful fall leaves and our spaghetti dinner in the sukkah. Thank you, ladies for all of your time and many talents.
Thanks also to Cynthia Wolf for keeping in touch with so many of our Temple members, family and friends. As co-chair of the Uniongram committee, she has been busy sending many good wishes for congratulations, recovery, sympathy, birthday, and “thinking of you.” If you think of anyone you would like to receive a Uniongram, please contact Cynthia.
What Is The Hiddur Mitzvah Project?
The Hebrew word mitzvah literally means commandment, but in the Jewish tradition, it has also come to mean blessing or good deed. Hiddur means to make beautiful. Thus, the concept of hiddur mitzvah can be viewed as a directive to make commandments and their fulfillment beautiful while doing good deeds. It is Gary Rosenthal’s belief that all Jewish ritual pieces required in mitzvot should be as aesthetically pleasing as possible in order to glorify G-d and his commandments.
Through the Rosenthal project, we are planning our own Temple wide, multi- generational projectof Hiddur Mitzvah. We have the opportunity to design our own, individual, beautifully colored glass and metal mosaics including candle sticks, tzedakah boxes, menorahs and many more ritual pieces.
You will be seeing this Gary Rosenthal logo a number of times in the near future. Be watching for more information on this exciting program.
